1) The world has gone mobile!
There are over 90 million mobile users surfing the web daily, with the number expected to reach at least a billion by 2013. Don't allow your company to lose revenue simply because your website isn't optimized correctly. When mobile users search the web, Google's mobile search results come ahead of the regular desktop & laptop SERPs. Ensure that people are seeing your site, wherever they happen to be searching by incorporating a mobile strategy in your marketing plan.

2) Location Based Marketing.
Foursquare, Gowalla, Facebook Places and a ton of other location based smartphone services have connected with users on the go, and in 2011 more marketing teams are going try connecting with their local audience, and attempting to capitalize on this.
3) Quick Website Speed.
Is your site full of flash that looks amazing- but only when (and if) it ever loads? That's not going to work anymore! Websites that take too long to load will face repercussions as Google lowers rankings for long site load time. Don't allow your company to be penalized for something so silly.
4) It's not just SEO anymore, it's SMO- Social Media Optimization
Your company must be present, active, and continuously considering keywords when posting content on social media websites. In 2011, expand your business strategy beyond just optimizing your website through SEO. This year, start optimizing your social media through SMO!
5) Personalized Search
Whether Internet users like it or not, personalized search is going to become more widespread throughout the coming years. Personalized search results will be based on Internet browsing habits which means consumers- and businesses should both be prepared. Consumers should be aware that their web surfing behavior may be tracked. Businesses should be aware of the fact that the more popular sites will receive superior positioning in personalized searches. If your site isn't currently getting much traffic, figure out how to change that this year.
As with most advice, I know a lot of this is easier said than done. If your company needs help with some or all of these 2011 Internet trends, make sure to hire a web development company that actually cares about the success of your business!
