Hurricane Sandy was destructive, to say the least. Lives were lost, homes were damaged, power went out and public transportation has taken a beating. With an estimated $20B in damages, Hurricane Sandy will go down as one of the most devastating storms the East Coast has ever seen. As many are assessing the damage of "Frankenstorm", communities are set to rebuild. But what about your small business? The storm of 2012 has forced many businesses to improvise. From encouraging employees to work from coffee s... read more.

When you spend as much time on Facebook as I do, you're more exposed to some of the biggest pet peeves in social media. There are plenty of things that really "grind my gears" on the giant social network and I'm sure they're the same for most of Facebook's active user base. By nature, I avoid confrontation and/or awkward situations. This is why I never actually "unfriend" anyone. Instead, I employ the subtle action of "unsubscribing" from people so that they'll never show up in my news feed ever again. Tha... read more.

UPDATE, 6/1/12: According to Facebook, GM pulled their Facebook ads because they were unable to run a full page takeover. After asking Facebook for permission to run "bigger, higher-impact" ads, Facebook denied their request. While those who can invest in Facebook are still debating whether or not Facebook has a bright future in advertising, one major issue surrounding the social giant is whether or not their advertising platform is effective. General Motors (GM) made news when they publicly criticized the... read more.

Do you anticipate a ridiculous amount of money owed in taxes next tax period? Well you can avoid paying it for a small price: Giving up your United States citizenship and being banned from the country for the entirety of your life. Could you leave everything behind and never return? Eduardo Saverin can. Eduardo Saverin is a name most Facebook users have never heard of - assuming they haven't seen the movie "The Social Network." However, Saverin is the co-founder of Facebook, and he owns about 4% of the c... read more.

Picture this: You're on the board of a multi-billion dollar company. As an internet company, you're facing heavy competition from other industry giants and no matter what strategies you employ, you still seem to get left behind. You come to the conclusion that it's time for a change - starting with your company's CEO. She seemed like the perfect person to lead the company when you hired her three years ago, but she hasn't really done much to improve the company's status. As you face heavy pressure from inv... read more.

Before the days of social media, there was the diary and/or friends who would listen to you complain about your parents. We've all been through the "I hate my parents" phase and although we shared those frustrations with our journals or vented about it to our friends, it's much different today. In fact, teens in today's world will most likely take to the digital world before keeping such feelings of frustration to themselves, thanks to social media. Social media has continued to stamp its place into the ev... read more.

The views expressed in this article are solely those of the author's and do not necessarily reflect the views of the entire Hudson Horizons organization. In college, I was always the guy who sat in the back corner of each class, in anticipation of its ending. I went through the motions of pretending like I actually cared about learning when, in reality, I was thinking about girls, money and the weekend. However, there were two classes that made me want to participate. Not only were these two courses inte... read more.

I wrote an article a few months back that discussed the breakdown of a Klout score. Klout is an online analytics program that attempts to measure a user's social influence. To do this, Klout scans your social media profiles and gives you a score not only based on your level of engagement, but also on how well you influence others. Although the concept sounds like a good idea, social media critics have passed on the idea not only because of the process Klout uses to give an accurate score, but also because o... read more.

As the debate surrounding Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman intensifies, national (and even international) figures of influence are utilizing social media as an outlet to voice their opinions. RELATED: The Power of Social Media: Trayvon Martin Case The latest debate saw MSNBC contributor, Touré (@Toure) voice his concerns on the way British journalist and talk show host, Piers Morgan (@PiersMorgan), handled the interview of Zimmerman's brother Robert. With the freedom of expression platform Twitt... read more.

With the rapid growth of an estimated 12 million invite-only users, scammers finding ways to ripoff consumers on Pinterest was inevitable. If you're playing catch-up, Pinterest is a social sharing site that allows its users to ‘pin' images of the things they love to visual pinboards - and women (and even men) love it. A recent traffic referral study has shown that Pinterest has driven in more traffic in January than Google+, LinkedIn and YouTube combined. The rapidly popular social networking site i... read more.
