New eBay Logo

The New eBayOnline auction giant, eBay has changed! Today eBay is launching a revamped site that adds a “feed” of products that users may be interested in, which displays them in a Pintrest-like layout. The new layout is in efforts to better engage users and offer sellers more effective ways to reach them. eBay now creates a feed of products that are for sale on the site that it thinks you may be interested in, based on past purchases and products viewed. You can tailor your feed to include specific kinds of items or even specific profiles such as “sports guru” or “fashionista.” Another new addition to eBay are tabs for “featured” items you’re watching!

The feed is live on eBay now, which also sports the new company logo. eBay also said that they will add a social aspect to the feed, which will let users create their own profiles and then share them with friends. At eBay’s announcement event, the company cited many statistics about its operations. The company now has more than 100 million active users, 25 million of whom are sellers, and manages $70 billion worth of transactions every year. More than half its revenue comes from outside the U.S., with 20% of its transactions happening across borders. The site currently has 350 million active listings at any one time. eBay’s mobile apps have been downloaded 100 million times, and almost 30% of eBay’s worldwide business has a “mobile touchpoint.”

The company also introduced a new app called eBay Now which is the first foray into same-day delivery online shopping, and according to its app description, the service is available for thousands of items. eBay has described the app to be simple, and as easy as finding what you like, and clicking “bring it.” To start, the service will only work for users in San Francisco, but eBay says other markets will become available soon. By entering the same-day delivery market, eBay will be going head to head with Amazon, which already provides the service on a limited time basis, as well as Wal-Mart, which also announced this week that it is testing a similar service.

eBay Statistics

Last month eBay released a new company logo, which is also part of the companies effort to re-invent itself. eBay believes that the new, more simpler logo would lead to a more consistent experience for users and sellers, including new tools which cater to both local and global selling.

Lets hope that the service provided by ebay continues to improve. Especially now that they have incorporated same-day delivery.
