Here at Hudson Horizons, employees (me included) are always trying to "oust" each other for mayorship of HH on foursquare; this is one of the many features that makes the popular mobile application exciting.

Foursquare has come a long way and for the past year, the location-based check-in application has spiraled to the top of the social media totem pole. Foursquare has joined the ranks of online social communities like Facebook and Twitter, where actions performed on foursquare intertwine with the other two, which creates a type of social media tripod where possibilities are endless.
Last year, to promote foursquare and social media as a whole, a Tampa Bay optometrist/social media enthusiast, Nate Bonilla-Warford decided to blog about this new thing called foursquare. Nate was impressed with all that the location check-in app had to offer. Both professionally and personally, Nate saw foursquare as an emerging platform that deserved attention.
As a serious supporter of Pi Day, Nate thought it would be perfect to recognize foursquare on the 4th 16th of the year.
After contacting foursquare about the idea, the grass-roots celebration commenced a few weeks later on April 16. Efforts to spread the word of foursquare day were tweeted, Facebook-ed and blogged all around the world. It was real and it was happening; foursquare day (4SQ Day) was the first global social media holiday!
Nate blogged about the excitement of the day and expressed how surreal it felt to be part of such a big celebration for social media."Foursquare Day is the first globally recognized grass-roots celebration of the power of social media as a positive force within the community." - Dr. Nate
This year, in celebration of FSQ Day, businesses, foursquare fanatics and even the (real) mayor of NYC is making foursquare come alive. Already there are 1225 registered foursquare communities around the world, in fact, check-ins are happening as this blog is being written already in Bangkok, where it's already 4/16!
Will you be participating in 4SQ Day? Attend a meetup and take advantage of specials in the surrounding areas. Businesses are offering discounts and even better, special badges tomorrow in recognition of foursquare's power to promote business and literally but them on the map!
There's less than 24 hours to go, so if you're a check-in fiend and excited to celebrate, check out foursquare's How to ROCK on Foursquare Day post and don't forget the all-important hashtag #4sqday to find out more on the active Twitter stream!
