Social media and the last day of the work week are a match made in heaven. Coincidence? I think not.
It is no surprise that Friday is the most active day of the week in terms of social media interaction. The magic that ensues with the eager anticipation of the weekend, some call it freedom, others claim a time to relax, is so special it puts Disney World to shame. It's almost an oxymoron to hear that social media is extra social in cyberspace for the excitement of meeting up with friends on a personal level, face-to-face. Wait. Did I just say meet up with "FACE-TO-FACE?" Sometimes, especially with texting and Facebook chat, it's hard to believe we are able to hold conversations when we have to be spontaneous with our responses!
Twitter blows up the scene with its #FF hashtag every Friday. You'll see all sorts of people really getting after the "Follow Friday" idea to get new followers and promote some of their old ones. But who wants to settle for one set name? Why don't we think about adding to the list "Fantastic Friday" or "Favorite Friday?" (We can talk about why our days are going so fantastic and what our favorite thing of the day is.) Tweets are going back and forth for tweeps to find out what's trending before they hit the town so they know what is happening in the world for the few moments they don't have the Twitter tab open at their desk or while in a conversation where it's impossible to check their tweets.
How about here we throw in another #FF, Facebook Friday. Just like Twitter, Facebook on Friday is going crazier than a 16 year old girl in the front row of a Justin Bieber concert. As the Friday work day winds down (Right after lunch for many), Facebook starts to light up with friends telling friends what the plans are for that night and photos are being commented on to reignite that flame from that special someone they met the weekend before (Hey, I just met you. And this is crazy....But I still remember you from 7 days ago). Don't forget the midday cocktails at lunch photos, which stand as a precursor to the Happy Hour photos, being added to the "It's Friday Friday Friday" album. (More on that in a bit) Many Facebook users have some serious detective work that has to be done also. There are so many Facebook brand pages that allow special perks and discounts to their Facebook fans. If people think they know where they might be going during the weekend they will be all over those pages to get the special secrets for the best places in town. We can't forget the mobile photo uploads we upload all night from WhoKnowsWhereville, USA. Thanks to Facebook and our mobile GPS capabilities, Facebook knows exactly where we were. That will become useful in the morning. Trust me.
Here's a little treat to ease you into the weekend if you weren't able to call in "sick" this morning...
