In just 8 years, Linkedin, a Professional Social Network has been able to pass 100 Million registered members with over 2 million company pages. This is a major milestone for a social networking website that was developed in 2003 and is geared to business professionals. It is currently being used in over 200 countries and has become very beneficial to everyday business individuals, or even career minded college students.
Have you created your Linkedin Profile Yet?
I just recently created mine after putting it off for so long, because I
never realized it was like an actual online resume profile, rather than just a plain profile. One of the best features is being able to get recommendations from past employers, employers, friends, co-workers, or anyone else that you may have worked with. These recommendations will show up right on your Linkedin Profile page by the specific job that you were recommended on. Whether you are connecting with other professional business minded individuals, companies, or just exploring the availability of jobs, I highly recommend signing up.
Are You On LinkedIn? If not, I recommend the following steps when you sign up for your free account:
- Register Using All Professional and Real Information
- Add In Your Contact Information
- Add In Your Past Employment
- Add In Your Skills
- Add In Your Education
- Any relevant websites you may have worked/own
- You may also choose to add in a profile picture.
What's the Next Step?
You should start browsing around, finding your past employers, following companies, and searching for new job opportunities. Networking is one of the best ways to get a jump on your career once you are out of college or even revive your existing career path. Linkedin is geared to helping you connect with individuals or companies that will fit your past experiences, skills, or interests. Feel free to connect with me as well.
A paid version of LinkedIn will help you to further grow your LinkedIn network once you have developed a solid base of connections. LinkedIn is the professional social networking version on Facebook but don't forget, employers still look at your Facebook profile.
