As Pinterest explodes on the social scene, marketers have been scrambling to leverage the tool for brands. But what is the recipe for a viral pin? And how do you make Pinterest matter in your social strategy?

Lately Pinterest has been informing their users of changes to their privacy policy and terms of use. It was after these changes that I started to notice a decrease in how often my pins were getting repinned and even the types of results I was getting through searches on the Pinterest platform.

To compensate for their growing problem with spammers, Pinterest has made changes to their algorithm that makes it harder for your content to become visible. Combined with their influx of members, the visibility of pins is no limited.

Carmen Sakurai at "The Pinterest Queen" found after testing that one pin is featured in any category, per account, every two hours. And after I did my testing, I found similar if not a lower ratio for the pins I was sharing.

So why keep pinning?

For one thing, Pinterest isn't going anywhere.

Pinterest is addicting.

Why is Pinterest Addictive?

Second, Pinterest is here to stay. And because of that, they will find a better solution to controlling spammers and when that happens, this algorithm will definitely change. It is up to you to ensure that you have developed your bored and made it a priority to curate content that is relevant to your brand.

In the meantime, always put thought into what you are pinning and the demographic those pins are directed at. Be patient, Pinterest is growing and changing every day. Place more emphasis on building followers while your pins are less visible to the Pinterest community.

Always remember that the Pinterest audience is very visual, make sure you are pinning not only interesting pins but that eye-catching images are attached. Some users will pin solely for the image.

Even more proof that Pinterest should not be taken lightly is the vast number of clones and imitation sites trying to mimic the content curation platform.
