This week is shaping out to be a busy week for online corporations. First facebook announced the launch of their new email service (which many were calling the Gmail Killer), National Unfriend Day took place on facebook (thanks to Jimmy Kimmel), Yahoo launched their new search tool- Yahoo Clues- to compete with Google's inadequate keyword tool, Myspace gave facebook users the ability to login in with their fb info (in an attempt to regain popularity), and now PayPal is introducing a feature that will let consumers shop right from their couch- using nothing except a TV that's connected to the Internet and a remote control!
PayPal created this innovative ‘TV Buy Button' to allow users an entirely new shopping experience: T-Commerce! T-Commerce, which stands for Television Commerce, is a new way of shopping, introduced by PayPal earlier this week. Now we've all heard of e-Commerce, but T-Commerce will allow users to access "digital wallets" by using their TV remote control to buy products online.
Osama Bedier, VP of platform, mobile and new ventures at PayPal, stated, "I'm happy to say we're one step closer to equipping every living room in America with T-commerce powered by PayPal." Bedier believes that PayPal's T-Commerce feature will transform the future of TV into an interactive shopping experience that incorporates the simplicity and protection that PayPal is known for.
Bedier went on to explain, "Imagine this: lounging on your couch and channel surfing, then finding that perfect birthday present. A few clicks of your remote, and you've purchased the gift via your PayPal account. Pretty cool, right?!".
PayPal is looking towards the future and they've come to realize that more and more televisions are becoming Internet accessible, which opens up new outlets for businesses to connect and sell to consumers, using televisions as the main platform.
Can your TV connect to the Internet? Will you be shopping from your couch, thanks to PayPal's new T-Commerce feature?
