If you are a regular user of social media, chances are that you have more than likely seen a number of statuses, tweets, questions, and polls regarding the upcoming 2012 Presidential Election. Can the influence of social media affect an individual’s final vote? Market research firm, Lab42 surveyed 500 U.S. social media users. In the survey, respondents were asked who they planned to vote for, and also who they will be voting against. What I found interesting about the survey was that it also measured if spouses agree on presidential candidates, which issues have the most impact on voters’ decision, and who is just not going to vote at all.
One statistic that should make us worry a bit is that 7% of registered independents have changed their minds four or more times. The study also revealed that 29% of the respondents didn’t even know what”GOP” stands for, come on! The survey was conducted on October 2-4 2012 with 500 Facebook and Twitter users responding.
According to a spokesperson from Lab42, “The majority of respondents took the survey after the first debate, and I think the only stat that may have changed is the undecided vote, which will continue to change up until the election.”
Below are the results of the survey conducted by Lab42.
