"Breast cancer is not just a disease that strikes at
women. It strikes at the very heart of who we are as women: how others perceive
us, how we perceive ourselves, how we live, work and raise our families-or
whether we do these things at all. "
-Debbie Wasserman

1 in 8 Women will develop Breast Cancer
My Aunt Marcia was diagnosed with Breast Cancer when I was
in middle school. At that time my cousins (herkids) and I didn't really know the
severity of cancer. About 1 in 8 women will develop Breast Cancer according to
BreastCancer.Org. This statistic keeps growing - haunting all of us. Thankfully,
my Aunt beat Breast Cancer (YAY!) and has been cancer-free for 7 years!
Spreading the Breast Cancer Awareness Love
One of the coolest aspects of Breast Cancer Awareness
Month is how many people and organizations get involved with spreading the
love. The NFL Football Players have revamped their uniforms this month. I'm
sure you've noticed the boys rocking the color Pink from their cleats and socks
to their gloves. Also, the American
Cancer Society Twitter page announced yesterday that they will donate 10
cents for every NFL Ticket sold in October
via Ticketmaster.

A
new social network called MyBCTeam was launched last month aiming to
connect Breast Cancer survivors and recently diagnosed women. Here, ladies can
share ideas, tips, and show one another love during this tough time. Even
though 1 out of 8 women are diagnosed with Breast Cancer, according to MyBCTeam these women still feel alone and
overwhelmed by the news. Mary Ray, co-founder of MyBCTeam, said in a statement,
"MyBCTeam provides a safe and welcoming environment where women can share
their personal stories and daily ups and downs during and after
treatment."
Feel Your Boobies®

Well, are you doing it? The founder of Feel Your Boobies® found a lump by
randomly ‘feeling her boobies' and thanks to that Leigh Hurst started a movement when she
founded this non-profit organization back in 2004. Earlier this year the women
behind Feel Your Boobies® partnered
up with GoGorilla Media in NYC and flash-mobbed Union Square with A LOT of
bras.
Spreading Breast Cancer
Awareness is easy via social media. Upload an image with the infamous Pink
Ribbon or like one of the many Facebook pages promoting Breast Cancer
Awareness. Donate to a foundation such as the National Breast Cancer Foundation,
Inc. Here are five other ways you can help fight
Breast Cancer with the help of the Avon Foundation. How are you helping
spread the word of Breast Cancer Awareness?
