Last week, David Segal, writer for The New York Times shared an in-depth story about how one popular department store ambitiously leveraged "black hat" optimization practices in order to continuously rank high on Google's SERP's. Interestingly enough, the company was J.C Penney and the time period for this frowned upon practice was during the holiday season.
