Search engine optimization. Three simple words, that, when put together can provide a daunting task for anyone trying to gain exposure for their website. Not to worry! - Here are three simple ways to succeed in increasing visibility in the search engines.searchengineoptimization.jpg

Actions speak louder than words? Right?-WRONG.
Well- not in the case of SEO at least. Content is crucial. Making sure a site has enough content, fresh content, and appropriate content is important to optimizing the presence of said site in the search engines. Make sure the site has a substantial amount of text- while Flash players and multimedia may be aesthetically pleasing, search engine spiders can't pick them up, words win when it comes to making your presence known online.

It is also important to have fresh text so that the site is constantly being updated- adding a blog like the one at Hudson Horizons, is a great way to do that. Having something new to check out provides the audience with a reason to visit the site.

Finally, make sure site content is well-written and appropriate. Be aware of who the audience is, Is the site targeting other businesses? Or, is it trying to appeal to some consumer base? From there, make sure the site's content is relevant to what that audience would be searching for.

Keywords are Critical

Speaking of what the audience is searching for, the strategic use of keywords is vital to the success of any site in the search engines. Make sure keywords are appropriate and relevant. Consider how the target audience would go about searching for this information, and use that to come up with effective keywords. Make sure not to use too many keywords, according to Business Insider- "search engine spiders are programmed to ignore sites guilty of keyword-stuffing."

Link in to the Loop

The best way to connect with the audience is to connect to other relevant sites using links. Make sure the anchor text in the link is search engine friendly, i.e. these are some great SEO tips" versus "for great SEO tips click here". The audience is more likely to be searching for "SEO TIPS" than for "Click here". Also, look for opportunities to link back to other pages on your site. This will direct the audience to other information you have already made available.

It is really important to be strategic with your use of keywords- if you use too many keywords, each one becomes less relevant individually.
